DJI’s Phantom quadcopter range has always included quality cameras that get the job done. DJI’s latest release, the Phantom 4 Pro completely eclipses this. The Phantom 4 Pro boasts a professional-grade camera with capabilities significantly greater than any of its predecessors.

This new Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 features an OcuSync HD transmission system, which supports automatic dual-frequency and switching and connects to DJI Goggles wirelessly. LIke the Phantom 4 Pro and Advance, the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 is equipped with a 1" 20MP sensor capable of shooting 4K/60fps video and burst mode stills at 14 fps. Plus, its FlightAutonomy system includes dual rear vision sensors and infrared sensing systems for a total of 5 directions of obstacle sensing and 4 directions of obstacle avoidance. 

The camera contains a 1” CMOS sensor (4 times larger than the Phantom 4 camera sensor) capable of 4K video at 60fps and improved low light performance. The larger sensor size results in a greater dynamic range. This means the camera will be better able to balance and resolve differences between light and dark. This is a common problem in aerial footage, when you often have a brightly lit sky against dark terrain below.

Many drone cameras also struggle with the ‘rolling shutter’ effect, which can give a jello-like shake to footage, especially when filming quick pans or chasing fast-moving subjects. The mechanical shutter of the Phantom 4 Pro helps eliminate this.

The added ability to adjust the lens aperture gives filmmakers greater control over depth of field in their images. The electronic shutter has also been improved with a max shutter speed of 1/8000-second.

The 20MP camera can now shoot 14 photos per second in burst mode and capture slow motion video at 60 frames per second.

The Phantom 4 Pro camera has an aerial-optimized f/2.8 wide-angle lens with a 24 mm equivalent focal length. It features eight elements that fit into a smaller, more compact frame. Images are consistently detailed with low distortion, ensuring photos and videos are sharp and vivid.

Improvements to the onboard camera are not the only upgrades for the Phantom 4 Pro. Other features include:

The Phantom 4 Pro v2.0 includes all of the revolutionary Intelligent Flight Modes introduced in the Phantom 4, as well as a few new ones. These include:

Draw

With Draw, simply draw a route on screen and the Phantom 4 Pro will move in that direction while keeping its altitude locked. This allows the pilot to focus on camera control and enables more complex shots. There are two Draw modes that can be used in different scenarios: 

Standard: The aircraft follows the route at a constant speed with the camera facing in the direction of flight.

Free: The aircraft only moves along the route when instructed. In this mode, the camera can face in any direction during a flight.

Gesture Mode

With Gesture Mode, computer vision technology allows the Phantom 4 Pro to take instructions through gestures. The subject simply lifts their arms when facing the camera and the aircraft will recognize this movement by locking on and placing the subject in the centre of the frame. When ready for a photo, the subject holds their arms out to signal the aircraft. A three-second countdown will begin, making time to strike a pose, allowing moments to be captured without the remote control.

ActiveTrack

Following fast-moving objects can be very challenging, but advanced, image-recognition algorithms used by the Phantom 4 Pro allow it to recognize and track an object while keeping it in the frame. This algorithm also recognizes a range of subjects, from people to vehicles to animals, and will adjust its flight dynamics to match, ensuring smoother shots.

TapFly

Fly in any direction visible on-screen with a simple tap. Tap anywhere on-screen to smoothly adjust the direction of flight while automatically avoiding obstacles and tap the screen again or use control sticks to change direction.

An AR route function shows the aircraft's real-time flight direction for reference as its route is adjusted. As it can be difficult to control altitude, course, speed and camera pitch simultaneously using joysticks, TapFly Free allows a pilot to set the direction of flight, allowing them to turn the Phantom 4 Pro or tilt the gimbal as required without changing the direction of flight.

Return to Home

In its Return to Home mode, the Phantom 4 Pro can automatically choose the best route to return home depending on environmental conditions. It records its route as it flies, allowing it to return along the same route avoiding obstacles if the control signal is disconnected.

Based on its altitude at the time of disconnection, the Phantom 4 Pro is also able to adjust its flight path to avoid obstacles it has seen during its flight.

At takeoff, the Phantom 4 Pro will record the scene below and compare its recording with what it sees as it returns, for more precise landing.

It can also detect the ground to see whether there is a suitable spot for landing. If any obstacles are found, or there is water on the ground, it will alert the pilot and hover at an appropriate height, helping the aircraft to land more safely.

The DJI Phantom 4 Intelligent Flight Battery is a 5350mAh, 15.2V, 4S LiPo battery, specifically designed for optimal performance in the Phantom 4 and Phantom 4 Pro.

The battery has built-in sensors and bright LEDs that let you know its status and remaining power in real time.

It can only be charged using a Phantom 4 charger.

The P4 Triple Battery Charging Hub, when connected to your regular Phantom 4 Charger, can fully charge up to three batteries in sequence.

But unlike previous DJI multi-charger hubs, it includes a selectable Storage Mode which sets a battery storage charge of 50%, the safest level to store all LiPo batteries.

And the really neat trick is that it will both charge AND discharge to reach that level, depending on the existing charge of each battery. For example, if you select Storage Mode and insert three batteries - one at 20%, one at 40% and one at 90% - it will automatically charge the first two and discharge the last one until all are at 50%.

In addition, if all batteries require discharge only, the device doesn't even need to be connected to power! Just turn on the batteries and leave them in the slots - they will turn off when they hit 50%.

This is great news for owners who want to get the maximum possible flights out of their expensive batteries without the messing around to partially charge and discharge them.

3 OPERATION MODES
3 differnet modes of operation allow the Ronin to be used in different scenarios, all of which can be entered without changing settings on the Ronin Assistant app or a 2nd operator remote. SmoothTrack fun ctionality remains in all three modes.

1 UPRIGHT MODE

Flip the gimbal over to bring the camera closer to eye level for a higher perspective without straining to fit it. Use this mode when sticking the Ronin out of a car's sunroof or when trying to shoot over a crowd of people.

2 UNDERSLUNG MODE

The default gimbal operation is the Underslung mode. The camera can be comfortably held low to the ground, at chest level or anywhere in between. This is also used when the Ronin is suspended from a camera jib or crane.

3 BRIEFCASE MODE

When a slimmer gimbal profile is needed, i.e when moving through doorways or narrow paths, briefcase mode is deal, it allows the gimbal to be held to the side close to the legs, much like a briefcase.

MOBILE BLUETOOTH ASSISTANT SOFTWARE
The feature-rich iOS and Android DJI Assistant software allows easy setup of all system configurations. The PC and Mac Assistant also provides control of all the Ronin's functionalities in addition to firmware upgrades for future features.

SIMPLE 5-MINUTE SETUP
With a little practice, the Ronin takes less than 5 minutes to set up and balance whenever the camera configuration is changed. This saves time, making the Ronin more efficient in professional envirnments where every second counts. The built-in ATS (Auto Tune Stability) technology intelligently tunes the Ronin to your camera a rig at the touch of a button.

SUPPORTS A MULTITUDE OF CAMERAS AND LENSES
The Ronin is not customized for any specific camera, it can be easily adjusted to carry everything from small & light M4/3 cameras to heavier systems like the Red Epic.

BASED ON ZENMUSE TECHNOLOGY
The DJI Zenmuse gimbals were the first commercially available system in the world to utilize brushless motor technology for professional filming and aerial photography. The Zenmuse gimbal line has long been a benchmark that others have been measured against. The Ronin is based off the same technology and also offers multiple control modes, a built-in IMU, and customized direct drive brushless motors.

2ND OPERATOR CONTROLLER
An included 2nd operator transmitter allows a 2nd operator to pan, tilt, and roll independent of the Ronin's movement. SmoothTrack speeds and operation modes can be assigned with 2 custom toggle switches on the transmitter.

HIGH PERFORMANCE PROCESSING POWER
A customized, advanced 32-bit floating point DSP processor offers more efficiency than an ARM processor, for faster processing of signals from the onboard encoders.

HIGH TORQUE, PRECISION CONTROLLED MOTORS
Motors have been developed with the high performance Ronin in mind. Using FOC control, you can count on high precision, low vibration, and increased torque. Digital Absolute Positioning Encoders in each axis provide the highest levels of accuracy. This combination of custom motor modules and features is found in no other system.

BUILT-IN RECEIVER & REMOTE CONTROL
A built-in DJI receiver allows the Ronin to be remotely controlled by a 2nd operator. The gimbal operator can focus on gimbal movement while the 2nd operator pays attention to camera movement. 2nd operator mode is also useful for gimbal control when working with flying platforms for aerial cinematography. A D-Bus port is also included if a non-DJI receiver is required.

QUICK RELEASE TOP HANDLE BAR
The top bar features a quick release system allowing easy attachment and detachment for repaid setup and break down. The same attachment can be used for vehicle or multi-rotor mounting.

QUICK SWAP INTELLIGENT BATTERY
The Ronin's customized intelligent battery is easy to install and simple to charge with the provided charger. Remaining power can be checked directly on the battery. Overcharge and over depletion protection is built-in, as is individual battery cell charge balancing. Expected run time is approximately 6 hours, depending on the camera rig and gimbal usage.

POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX
Two regulated 12V P-taps, one 500mAH full size USB connector, and also a connection point for the DJI Light bridge Long Range HD Video Downlink are provided. This offers convenient power connection for various accessories including follow focus system, HD video downlinks and others, all while keeping the wiring to a minimum.

DUAL 15MM RODS FOR FOLLOW-FOCUS ACCESSORIES
Follow focus systems and matte boxed can be easily mounted on the Ronin using industry standard dual 15mm segmented rods. The segmented rods allow for customization of different lengths, dependent on camera and lens setup.

PROTECTIVE CARRYING CASE
An extremely strong, durable and water tight carrying case with rolling wheels provides easy transportation. Dense custom cut EPP foam protects the Ronin and accessories.

AUTO CONFIGURATION
After balancing a camera rig, simply tap the Auto Tune Stability button to tune the Ronin for use. It will intelligently adjust parameters based on your camera rig's weight and independently adjust each individual axis until an optimal setting is found. Auto Tune Stability also fine-tunes other aspects of control system, making balancing fast and easy.

SMOOTHTRACK TUNING
Tune each individual speed to your preference. SmoothTrack provides movement translation based off the Roin operator's movement. As the Ronin operator pans or tilts the gimal, the camera orientation will pan and tilt in the direction the gimbal is moved and then ramp down in speed. This pan and tilt movement speed can be independently adjusted using software. Translated movement acceleration can also be fine tuned as well. If the Ronin operator needs to pan or tilt rapidly between two positions and the standard speed isn't sufficient, an accelerated speed can be adjusted without affecting slower movements.

REMOTE OPERATOR CONTROL
Full configuration of the transmitter can be accomplished through the DJI Assistant. Features such as control speed, remapping of what the control joysticks do, and also end-point adjustments can be configured through Assistant.

RONIN STATS
The Ronin's vital stats can also be viewed on the Assistant app. Key items such as motor power, pan-tilt-roll axis's degrees of movement, electronics' temperature monitoring, as well as remaining battery life.

FIRMWARE UPGRADABLE
All unis shipped will have the latest firmware, but due to our continuous drive to innovate, firmware updates will be made available online for improved performance and future features.

PRECISE FOCUS CONTROL
Use the Ronin with the DJI Focus for wireless control of focus or aperture from anywhere on a set.
